“Waste Reduction and Recycling Charter”

2024-05-27

To help residents of private residential premises foster a habit of source separation of waste and ensure proper handling of recyclables collected, starting from 1 June 2024, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will launch the "Waste Reduction and Recycling Charter" for private residential premises with a view to enhancing residents' awareness and development of habits in recycling.

When signing the "Waste Reduction and Recycling Charter", property management companies/owners' corporations/residents' organizations of the PRP shall commit to providing recycling facilities at locations convenient to their residents; assisting and encouraging their residents to practice source separation and clean recycling of common recyclables including paper, metals, plastics, glass containers, beverage cartons and food waste, etc.; engaging reliable recyclers for handling; keeping collection and delivery records of various types of recyclables; and reporting to their residents quarterly on recycling data to improve recycling management performance.

Upon receiving the application, the EPD will evaluate it against the participation criteria and provide adequate technical support to the PRP, where appropriate.  The PRP who sign the "Waste Reduction and Recycling Charter" successfully on or before 30 November 2024, will receive free designated bags for distribution to their residents by property management companies/owners' corporations/residents' organizations/other operators.
